2011 Awards for Willoway Farm

Sunday, January 15, was the inaugural IEA Horse Show for three new Arizona Teams.
The three teams, Rancho Solano Equestrian Team (Coach: Susan Herrick),
Crossroads East Valley Equestrian Team (Coach: Rachel Jansen-Jones)
and Scottsdale Equestrian Team (Coach: Kathy Johnson)
met at 7:00 AM at Crossroads Farm in Gilbert, Arizona.
Arizona’s normally sunny skies were cloudy as a threat of rain hung in the cool morning air.

The cloudy, cool weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of either the riders or staff.
All went off as scheduled (though a bit hectic at times).
Two shows were held on Sunday with team results being the same for both shows.
The Rancho Solano Team was Champion at the Varsity and Middle School levels while Scottsdale was reserve in both divisions. Selene Presseller (Rancho) and Kara Donovan (Scottsdale) were selected as Sportsmanship Award winners. Selene (a High School senior at Rancho Solano) was the driving force to establish the IEA in Arizona. Selene worked diligently for almost two years to get this program off the ground. Our hats are off to Selene and her Mom, Rosalie.

Scottsdale Equestrian Team (Coach: Kathy Johnson)

The horses were supplied by Crossroads Farm and Crestline Farm .
We established a special award for best turned out horse.
This award was won by “Bailey” (Crestline Farm ) and “Toby” (Crestline Farm ).
At our next show, February 5, we are adding a “Style Award” for the “Best Turned out Rider”.
Our thanks go out in advance to Greenway Saddlery who is generously sponsoring the horse
and rider awards with gift certificates.

We are all excited for our next show with more riders participating for all teams.
Some riders were unable to attend the first show due to school and family conflicts.
The February 5 show will be held at Sandspur Ranch in Scottsdale, Arizona.
